THE BATTLETOWN EXPERIMENTAL ART WORKSHOPS
Over the past four years the Battletown Gallery has been running different Workshops. Our Monthly Wednesday class is geared towards those with a good bit of art experience and gives the opportunity to work with other artists and try new painting techniques.
These classes are tutored by various professional artists, most of which exhibit in our Gallery and have recognition from the RUA. Art tutors will be Neil shawcross, Paul O'Kane and Rosemary Gifford. You can use whatever medium you wish to work in.
If you have some degree of art experience and want to push the boundaries to see what else you can do, this could be the course for you.
The course will run from January to March 2012, the first Wednesday of each month (exception of January when will be second), 10 am to 4pm. We provide coffee/tea and scones. Cost £120 for the course.
Please book today to secure your place!
Watercolour Monthly Workshops with Grahame Booth

Again this year, Grahame will be tutoring six full day classes running from November 2010 until April 2011, on the first Saturday of each month. Even though this class is a follow-on from last year, we welcome beginners!
This time, again the emphasis will be on tackling the various common subjects and each participant will be encouraged to bring along their own subject material. This must be in the form of photographs that the participant has taken themselves to ensure familiarity with the subject. No prints of paintings or of other people's photographs may be used. A few should be brought each day as the day will begin with what makes a suitable (or unsuitable) subject. Should anyone not have suitable photographs, Grahame will supply one.
We would encourage you to bring along your own watercolour materials as well as a sketch book or sketching paper.
Dates have now been confirmed as follows: 5 Nov, 3 Dec, 9 Jan, 6 Feb, 5 March, and 2 April. This keeps it simple with the 1st Saturday in the month apart from January. We think it is best to keep January in as a two month break really breaks up the flow. None of these dates clash with any official holidays.
Topics will be:
THE THREE WAY RULES
Simplify your watercolours by using easy to remember three way rules. The rules apply to every painting but each week we will study one rule in detail with exercises and then paint subjects where the rule can be applied.
WEEK 1: Depth: Background, middle ground and foreground
WEEK 2: Shapes: Big, medium and small
WEEK 3: Edges: Hard, partly soft and soft
WEEK 4: Tone: Dark, medium and light
WEEK 5: Colour: Cool, neutral and warm
WEEK 6: Combining the rules to produce paintings with impact and realism.
The classes are from 10am – 4pm and we provide coffee/tea and scones. Please bring your own packed lunch. The cost of the six week course is £240.
